Cooking up Change

Cooking up Change challenges high school students to create a healthy school lunch that meets the nutrition requirements of the USDA school meal program. More than 1,800 students from 22 cities across the country have participated in local “top chef” style contests. Winning teams travel to Washington, D.C., for the national finals to engage with policymakers and raise their voices for healthy school food.

As a program with events happening all over the country, I wanted the Cooking up Change brand to work for small budgets, limited design capacity and a range of needs. I created the brand identity and design system to be simple but recognizable whether you’re at a small contest in Kansas or at the national finals in Washington, D.C. Key to the brand is photography picturing these student chefs as powerful leaders in the movement for healthier school food.
